- Hermitage Castle: Dating from the end of the 13th century, this imposing castle sits beside the Hermitage Water. Open April 1 to Sept 30, weekdays from 9.30am to 6.30pm and Sundays 2.00pm to 6.30pm. At other times of year you can still wander around the grounds of the magnificent ruin. 6 miles north east of Newcastleton.
